Bush and Cheney are war criminals
October 30, 2005
In response to the NYTimes’ Nicholas Kristof’s call for Cheney’s resignation, the usually very worthwhile For the Record rightly ups the ante, and argues (correctly) that we should send Cheney and Bush to the Hague to be tried as the war criminals they are.
Go read it yourself; but here’s a snippet:
Cheney and Bush lied the US into an aggressive war, for the purposes of, inter alia, restoring family honor, helping the oil industry, helping the military-industrial complex in general and saving Halliburton from bankruptcy, missionizing Iraqis, turning Bush into a war president to win the ‘04 election, and helping Israel… we side with Robert Jackson, chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials, in his view that the waging of aggressive war “essentially an evil thing . . . to initiate a war of aggression . . . is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.”
I wish I’d said that. But I’ll happily repeat it.
