According to Harper's Index, the 5% of the world that is the USA now spends as much on "defense" as the entire rest of the world put together. And at $290 billion and climbing, we've now spent a full $1000 per American on the Iraq war alone.

Fathers' Day has completely changed for me on both ends over the last decade. My own dad died in 1998 (and my wife's father died in 1999), so there's no dads to do anything about in our house.
