A shameful day in the Empire State
July 6, 2006Dashing some fairly high hopes, the New York State Court of Appeals (what other states call the “State Supreme Court”) has ruled 4-2 in favor of bigotry and unfairness by failing to recognize the right of same-sex couples to marry. (N.Y. Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban)
Tough loss. I watched some of the arguments on TV, and it was such a total asskicking in favor of the the gay couples’ attorneys that it seems pretty clear that the NY State Attorney General’s office was trying to throw the case — which, if I were Eliot Spitzer (that’s “Soon-to-be-Governor Spitzer” to you), I would have done.
(Of course, as a Man of the Cloth, I was looking forward to the the opportunity to do some more gay marryin‘. Damn.)
