A shameful day in the Empire State

July 6, 2006

Dashing some fairly high hopes, the New York State Court of Appeals (what other states call the “State Supreme Court”) has ruled 4-2 in favor of bigotry and unfairness by failing to recognize the right of same-sex couples to marry. (N.Y. Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban)

Tough loss. I watched some of the arguments on TV, and it was such a total asskicking in favor of the the gay couples’ attorneys that it seems pretty clear that the NY State Attorney General’s office was trying to throw the case — which, if I were Eliot Spitzer (that’s “Soon-to-be-Governor Spitzer” to you), I would have done.

(Of course, as a Man of the Cloth, I was looking forward to the the opportunity to do some more gay marryin‘. Damn.)
