Protecting America’s relationship with Gawd

July 20, 2006

A couple of years back, Congress was pandering to theocratic idiocy by considering a law to ban judicial review of the constitutionality of the pledge. Now, the House has gotten around to passing another such bill: House OKs bill guarding Pledge from courts.

Findlaw did a couple of nice serious pieces on the earlier “Pledge Protection Act” passed by the House then which are still very relevant and worth reading. In “The Pledge Protection Act: The Lunacy of Letting Only State Courts Interpret the First Amendment” and “Conduct Unbefitting the Congress: The So-Called Pledge Protection Act Passed by the House of Representatives” the legal eagles over there say what should be said about this pathetic and unconstitutional attempt to institutionalize theocracy and violate the separation of powers. Worth a read.
