The ghost of Pee-Wee Herman
July 25, 2006As a long-time fan of the connection between abstinence-only sex-ed programs and the encouragement of anal sex (see, e.g., my earlier post Pledge abstinence, get hot ass!), I was particularly interested and disappointed to learn this (via YesButNoButYes):
PBS — the only network my son watches, pretty much — has fired Melanie Martinez as host of Sprout’s The Good Night Show for having appeared seven years ago in a short comedy video spoofing those annoying abstinence-only sex-ed PSAs. You can read their press release here; their given reason is that “the dialogue in this video is inappropriate for her role as a preschool program host and may undermine her character’s credibility with our audience”; but we all know it’s about fear of reprisal from sponsors worried about their “moral” public image.
