Civil confinement for perverts gets a setback
November 24, 2006Following up on my past defending of the scum of society from having their civil protections under the rule of law revoked because we really don’t like what they’ve done (see the earlier posts More erosion of the rule of law and No civil liberty protection for perverts), the New York Court of Appeals (”Supreme Court” for you in other states) has agreed with me on this one: Court: Pataki violated rights of sex offenders. Apparently they seemed to think that imprisoning groups of offenders without trial or hearing who had served their entire legally mandated sentence for all offenses that they’d been convicted of was some kind of violation of their rights. Wow, how radical.
Of course, they apologized, and wished the legislative and executive branches good luck in their attempt to find more legally defensible paths to the undermining of due process. OK, maybe not in so many words, but still.
